Yehudit Kafri

Yehudit Kafri Meiri (* 1935 in En haChoresch / Galilee ) is an Israeli poet and writer.

Life

Kafri grew up in Kibbutz En haChoresch on as a child Polish- Zionist immigrants who were both from the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement. She studied at universities in Israel and in the U.S. literature and then worked for many years as an editor and translator in Sifriat Poalim publisher. After her marriage she moved to Kibbutz Sasa, where she wrote her first book.

Later she moved to the kibbutz Schowal and wrote more books of poems and a book about her childhood memories, which appeared in several editions. She now lives in Mazkeret Batya.

She became internationally known through the biography of Sophia Poznanska (1906-1942), the first love of her father Fischek Kempinski still in his hometown Kalisch.

So far, only a few of her poems have been translated into other languages ​​, among others into Arabic, English, French, Spanish, German, Croatian and Russian.
