Yelizaveta Yermolayeva

Elizaveta Alexandrovna Jermolajewa (Russian Елизавета Александровна Ермолаева, English transcription Yelizaveta Yermolayeva; . * 1935 in Minsk) is a former middle distance runner, who took for the Soviet Union. It was 1958 European champion over 800 m.

In the Soviet Championships in 1957, she won the 800 -meter run before Nina Otkalenko. The winning time of 2:05,6 minutes should remain their fastest time.

In 1958 she went to the European Championships in Stockholm and won her lead in 2:10,1 minutes. In the final three runners from the Soviet Union Dzidra Levická, Vera Muchanowa and Jermolajewa tried from the beginning to break away from the rest of the field. Up to 200 meters from the finish, the three were in the lead, then stormed from behind the Briton Diane Leather up who was four years earlier second behind Otkalenko. While Muchanowa fell, fought on the home straight Jermolajewa and Levická against the British. At the finish Jermolajewa won in 2:06,3 min with 0.3 s ahead of Leather rank 2 Levická.
