The Gelbbauchpfäffchen ( Sporophila nigricollis ) is a passerine bird of the genus Pfäffchen ( Sporophila ) within the family of tanagers ( Thraupidae ).

Features

The Gelbbauchpfäffchen reached a size of about 11 centimeters. Head, throat and upper breast are black. The belly is pale yellow. Females and young birds are olive yellow at the top, the males olive color. Its closest relative, the Kapuzenpfäffchen is probably extinct.

Distribution and habitat

The Gelbbauchpfäffchen is in Central America (eg, Costa Rica, Panama), South America ( from Colombia to Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina ) and the Lesser Antilles (eg, Trinidad and Tobago, Martinique, Guadeloupe) spread and inhabited pairwise open habitats from the lowlands to altitudes of 2,300 meters.

Reproduction

The nest consists of two to three eggs. The cup-shaped nest has a diameter of 8.5 centimeters. The incubation period is 13 days.
