Tahaweber ( Euplectes afer)

The Tahaweber ( Euplectes afer), also known as Napoleon Weber, is a species in the family of weaver birds. The species is occasionally kept as an ornamental bird in Europe. More often, this gregarious species, however, maintained in zoological gardens.

Description

The Tahaweber reaches a body length of eleven centimeters. In breeding plumage, the males have a bright yellow feathers on the top of the head and chest. The rest of the plumage is black. In plumage the males are similar to colored females. This wear all year a sparrow -like plumage. This points to the body top, a gray-brown and black stripes. On underside of the body is yellowish to whitish stripes.

The nest is first built by the male. The female cushions from the prefabricated by the male 's nest. The nest consists of three to four eggs, which have a greenish, dark speckled shell color.

Tahaweber come in four different subspecies. Its distribution area is almost the whole of Africa. Their habitat is marshes and shores of lakes and rivers.
