Yellow-rumped Siskin

The Kordillerenzeisig (Carduelis uropygialis, in older literature also Spinus uropygialis ) is a species of the subfamily of the Goldfinch -like. It is found only in South America. Unlike many other Zeisigarten in the ornamental bird holding it does not matter because it is fragile and difficult to acclimate as high mountain bird.

Appearance

The Kordillerenzeisig reaches a body length of eleven to twelve inches. The male is black on the body top. The feathers on back and shoulders have yellow seams in some individuals. The rump and the upper and under tail-coverts are bright yellow. This also applies to the chest and abdomen. The flanks are mottled black and yellow. The bill is slate gray. The eyes and the feet are black brown.

The females are dark olive green on the body top. The yellow- feathered parts of the body are less bright than in the male.

Way of life

The Kordillerenzeisig is a species that inhabited the Andes at altitudes between 1500-3500 meters in altitude. Its range extends from southern Peru over the southwest of Bolivia to the west of Argentina and in the center of Chile. Its habitat is the bush -rich high mountain steppe. Its diet consists mainly of various seeds and insects.
