Yevgeny Chertovsky

Yevgeny Jefimowitsch Tschertowski (Russian: Евгений Ефимович Чертовский, * February 15, 1902 in Ligovo in Saint Petersburg, † 1961) was a Soviet engineer and inventor.

Life

As an engineer, he worked at the aviation medical institute in Leningrad. He was in the 1930s on the Soviet program for a first stratospheric balloon, the Ossoawiachim -1, involved. In 1931 he designed the first, nor impractical pressure suit in Saint Petersburg.

Just four years later in 1934 the American Wiley Post and Russell S. Colley internally developed by Goodrich Corporation's first practical pressure suit. On September 5, 1934 Post on Chicago thus reached a cruising altitude of 40,000 feet. This allowed him to fly in the jet stream.
