Yevhen Hrebinka

Yevhen Pawlowytsch Hrebinka (Ukrainian Євген Павлович Гребінка, scientific transliteration Jevhen Pavlovyč Hrebinka; Russian Евгений Павлович Гребёнка / Yevgeny Pavlovich Grebjonka; * 21 Januarjul / 2 February 1812greg in Ubjeschyschtsche (village near Pyrjatyn ). . † 3 Dezemberjul. / 15 December 1848greg. St. Petersburg ) was a Ukrainian writer, which is attributed to the romance. He wrote in Russian and Ukrainian.

Originally from the Poltava area, he lived from 1834 in St. Petersburg, where he taught at military schools among others. Already in 1831 he had published his first literary works. Among the best known works include the Little Russian fables from the year 1834, which represents one of the best collections of Ukrainian fables. Other major works are the stories of a Pyrjatyners from 1837 and the historical poems Hetman Svihorskyj (1842 ) and Bohdan (1843 ).

In 1846 he translated Pushkin's Poltava in the Ukrainian language. He was also active as an editor (eg: Laštovka ).
