Yi Chong-jun
Lee Cheong -jun (also Chŏng Yi -jun, born August 9, 1939 in Jangheung, sub-province Zenra - nando, Chosen Province, at that time the Empire of Japan, South Korea today, † July 31, 2008 in Seoul, South Korea) was a South Korean author.
Life
Lee Cheong -jun completed his studies in German at the Seoul National University.
In 1965 he published his first short novel Toewon ( 퇴원 ), by which he won the Sasanggye New Writer Prize. Many of his works were filmed, such as Ieodo ( 이어도; 1977) by director Kim Ki -young, Seopyeonje ( 서편제; 1993) by Im Kwon- taek and Secret Sunshine ( 밀양; 2007) by Lee Chang -dong. Lee Cheong -jun died at the age of 68 years at Samsung Medical Center in Seoul on 31 July 2008 of lung cancer. He wrote more than 100 short stories and 13 novels. Lee was considered one of the most influential writers of South Korea and won several awards. His work has been translated into numerous languages , including English, German, French, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese and Spanish.
