Yingge District

Yingge (Chinese莺歌 区, pinyin Yingge Qū, PEH oē - jī Eng -ko ) is a district of the city of New Taipei City in northern Taiwan, Republic of China.

Location

The predominantly hilly Yingge is on the western edge of New Taipei, and is bordered to the east and south to the neighboring districts Shulin and Sanxia and to the north and west by the Taoyuan County. Yingge is on the river Dahan.

History and Significance

The name of the district derives from the town is home to " Oriole Rock " (Chinese:莺 哥 石Yingge Shi ), which is shaped like the shape of an oriole. In the present name of the district was the character哥(Pinyin: gē ) by the identical character歌replaced.

Yingge was populated by Chinese immigrants since the 18th century and is famous for its 200 year old pottery tradition, their occurrence is due to the occurrence of good clay. Opened in 2000, the Ceramics Museum gives an overview of the history and present of the local pottery. The Yingeer ceramics is now a tourist attraction; particularly in the old " Töpferstraße " there are many ceramic, porcelain, and other craft shops.
