Yingpu Culture

The Yingpu culture (Chinese营 埔 文化) was a late Neolithic culture (ca. 3500-2000 BP ) on the west coast of Taiwan. Its main distribution area was the city Taizhong, district Zhanghua and in Nantou County, especially in the central regions of the rivers Zhuoshui, Dadu and dajia.

The type locality is the village in the district of Dadu Yingpu of Taizhong and was founded in 1943 by Japanese archaeologists Naoichi Kokubu (国 分 直 一) discovered. Material legacies of this culture were also in numerous other sites as Shuitiliao (水底寮) Tamalin (大马 璘), and Tapingting (大坪 顶) are documented. Mainly it involves black and red painted pottery.
