Yipsi Moreno

Yipsi Moreno González ( born November 19, 1980 in Camagüey ) is a Cuban hammer thrower, who was world champion twice.

In her youth, her talent was discovered for the throwing events of track and field at the sports boarding school in Havana. With 14 years she has specialized in the hammer throw. In 1998, she finished fourth at the Junior World Championships. In 1999 she presented with 66.34 meters, a short-lived junior world record, won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg, then occupied but a few weeks later at the IAAF World Championships in Seville, the 18th.

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, she finished fourth, followed in 2001 and a further increase. First she broke the 70 -meter mark, then won gold at the World Championships in Edmonton and silver at the Universiade. In 2003, she broke the 75 -meter mark and defended her title at the World Championships in Paris.

At the 2004 Olympics in Athens, she won with 73.36 m silver medal behind Kusenkowa Olga (RUS ) and before her compatriot Yunaika Crawford.

In the next two World Championships, she won silver: 2005 in Helsinki with 73,08 m behind Olga Kusenkowa and 2007 in Osaka with 74.74 m behind Betty Heidler (GER ). On June 17, 2007, she improved in Warsaw its own North and Central America - record 76.36 m. Again Second Moreno was at the Olympic Games 2008. 75.20 m With it placed behind the Belarusian Aksana Mjankowa and before the Chinese Zhang Wenxiu.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London Moreno finished with 74,60 m on the 6th rank. In February 2012, she announced to retire from active competition after the Olympics. However, after the race she said, still trying to work out another year and try to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in 2013.

Yipsi Moreno has a competition weight of 70 kg at a height of 1.68 m. She is with her physical therapist, Abdel Quintana, married and has a daughter.
