Ylli Bufi

Ylli Sokrat Bufi ( born May 25, 1948 in Tirana) is an Albanian politician (PS).

Biography

After school he studied at the Faculty of Science, University of Tirana chemical engineering and graduated in 1972 with a Doctor of Science from. He then worked for a food company in Fier, first as a chemical engineer in oil production and then from 1976 to 1982. Then Bufi was 1982-1983 staff of the Committee for Science and Technology.

Between 1983 and 1990 he was Deputy Minister of Light and Food Industry in the government of Prime Minister Adil Carcani, who then appointed him minister for food industry. He also held in the subsequent government of Prime Minister Fatos Nano since February 1991 this office.

Following the resignation of Nano Bufi was a member of the Socialiste e partia Shqipërisë (PS), on 5 June 1991, his successor as Prime Minister of Albania. After six months in office, he handed the office of the Prime Minister on 10 December 1991 at Vilson Ahmeti.

From 1992 to 1996 he was chairman of the Committee on Industry, Trade and Transport of the Albanian Parliament ( Kuvendi i Shqipërisë ). Between March and July 1997, he worked as an adviser to Prime Minister Bashkim Fino before until October 1999 he was Minister of Public Economy and Privatization in the governments of Fatos Nano and Pandeli Majko of July 1997.

Later, he was from 2001 to 2005 Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Finance and Privatization, and at the same time from 2002 to 2005 Member of the Committee for review and implementation of the recommendations of the OSCE.

Since September 2005 Bufi is Deputy Chairman of the PS and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on production, trade and the environment.
