Yoandri Betanzos

Yoandri Betanzos Francis ( * February 15, 1982 in Santiago de Cuba ) is a Cuban triple jumper.

After he started at the age of nine years with the Athletics, his talent was discovered for the jumping events quickly. First, he focused on the high jump, but changed because he is not tall, on the advice of his coach for Triple Jump. In 1999, he won a silver medal at the World Junior Championships, in the following year, silver at the World Junior Championships and he was Pan-American Junior Champion 2001.

In 2003 he won at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, and shortly thereafter won silver at the World Championships in Paris / Saint- Denis.

In 2004 he won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest and was fourth at the Olympic Games in Athens. At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005, he landed again on the silver medal.

In 2006 he again won bronze at the World Indoor Championships in Moscow. The following year, however, he failed at the World Championships in Osaka in qualifying. He could 2008 do not qualify for one of the three triple-jump starting places in the Cuban national team for the Olympic Games in Beijing. After he had his personal best improved in April 2009 in Havana by two centimeters to 17.65 m, he resigned in August at the world championships in Berlin again already in the qualifier.
