Yoav Freund

Yoav friend (* in the 20th century) is an Israeli- American computer scientist.

Friend took on the Israeli part Talpiot program and studied computer science at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he was with Manfred Warmuth ( and David Haussler ) his doctorate in 1993 (Data filtering and distribution modeling algorithms for machine learning ). He is a professor at the University of California, San Diego.

With Robert Schapire 1995 he pioneered a meta- algorithm of boosting type in the machine learning one who uses adaptively other learning algorithms and evaluates and optimizes the overall result ( AdaBoost, Adaptive Boost).

It deals with applications in machine learning and statistics, for example, in bioinformatics, image and signal processing. Complex image processing tasks, in which he works, arising in biology, for example in the study of gene activity in the cells of the fly embryo with fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH ). It also examines applications of machine learning in biology in the linking of extensive experimental and database information with different reliability level.

In 2003 he received with Robert Schapire the Gödel Prize and 2004 both received the Paris Kanellakis Award.
