Yōichi Higashi

Yōichi Higashi (Japanese东 阳 一, Higashi Yōichi; born November 14, 1934 in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese film director and screenwriter.

From 1952 to 1962 he studied literature at Waseda University, and after graduation went into the movie business. In 1965 he published his first short film in 1971 and gave his feature film debut with Yasashii Nippon jin. His subsequent films such as sado excited much attention in Japan and have been awarded numerous prizes. Was launched in 1996 The village of my dreams, for which he received a Silver Bear at the Berlinale 1996.
