Yona Metzger

Yona Metzger (Hebrew יונה מצגר, Yona Metzger also transcribed; * August 4, 1953 in Haifa) was in the period 2003-2013 Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel. He is considered a national religious- orthodox.

Metzger was a soldier in the Israeli army and fought in several wars. He left the Army as a military rabbi in the rank of captain.

Then Metzger studied at the Kerem Be - Yavne Hesder Yeshiva and taught simultaneously at a yeshiva and schools. He took over the position of rabbi of Tiferet Zvi Synagogue in Tel Aviv and was later responsible for the whole of the north of Tel Aviv. He has published several books.
