Yona Yahav

Jonah Jahaw (Hebrew: יונה יהב; born June 19, 1944 in Haifa) is an Israeli lawyer and politician. Jahaw is currently mayor of Haifa.

In the fourteenth Knesset ( choice of 29 May 1996 ) he was a member of the Avodah ( Israeli Labor Party, Zionist party of the center-left ). He worked in the Directorate of diverse political, economic, and civic organizations. In 2003 he was elected mayor of Haifa and moved on 29 June 2006, founded by Ariel Sharon nor Kadima ( German: "Forward" ), a liberal party in the center of the Israeli political spectrum.

Jonah Jahaw, whose father was born in Cologne, once confessed that he had sworn as a teenager himself, never ever to set foot on German soil.

On a trip to the twin city of Mainz on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the twinning Haifa - Mainz in May 2007, he planted a vine and was Consitor Senatus Vineti of Mainz Wine Senate appointed. The Planting of vines continues the tradition of Israel, to let visitors to the country to plant a tree.
