Yopougon

Yopougon is a district of Abidjan in the Ivory Coast.

In Yopougun is the seat of the Diocese of Yopougon.

Yopougun houses the largest slums of Abidjan.

History

In October 2000, found, in the course of presidential elections in Abidjan quite fierce street battles instead. It was then found (French for " mass grave of Yopougon " ) in Yopougon, the so-called " Charnier de Youpogon ". Inside were the bodies of more than 50, mainly coming from the north, people. The perpetrators were suspected in the ranks of the Gendarmerie.

28 December 2010 an angry mob attacked a convoy in Yopougon the UN. They violated a UN soldier with a machete and set fire to one of the three vehicles.

As part of the government crisis 2010/2011 it came in Yopougon, which was considered a stronghold of Laurent Gbagbo, fighting between rebels of the invisible commands and the former Ivorian Armed Forces (FDS ). In the night from 14 to 15 March 2011, the residence of Philippe Mangou was, at the time chief of the armed forces attacked.
