York Mountain AVA

York Mountain AVA is a recognized since August 24, 1983 wine-growing region in the U.S. state of California and part of the national South Coast AVA.

Location

The vineyards here are spread over the municipality of San Luis Obispo County and located in the eastern part of the Santa Lucia Mountains, west of the Appellation Paso Robles AVA. Further north lies the wine region Hames Valley AVA. The vineyards are located at an altitude of about 450 m above sea level. NN, just 11 km from the Pacific Ocean. This allows the cooling mist and sea breezes of the ocean moderating effect on the climate. Climate of York Mountain is making it cooler and more humid than that of further east Paso Robles.

Recognition as a designation of origin is due to a petition to the winery York Mountain Winery, which operates a commercial viticulture since 1882.
