Yorketown (South Australia)

Yorketown is a small town on the Yorke Peninsula (English Yorke Peninsula ) in the Australian state of South Australia. In 2006 lived in the town of 685 inhabitants.

Yorketown is centrally located in the heel of the foot-shaped peninsula, the southern center it is. To the east and south, there are about ten miles to the coast, to the northwest around 15 kilometers. The place is only about 80 kilometers as the crow flies west of Adelaide; on the road around the Gulf Saint Vincent, there are but 227 km.

Around Yorketown There are about 200 salt lakes, some of them within the city limits. Until the 1950s salt was recovered in the area and shipped, which helped the city to prosperity.
