Julius Grégr ( born December 19, 1831 in Březhrad; † October 4, 1896 in Dol ) was a Bohemian- Czech politician and journalist.

Life

1860 investigated the representative of the Czech national parties ( Patriots ), a person who was the Austrian monarchy have not noticed, so that they would this reliable and capable person allow the publication of a Czech daily newspaper. This they found in Julius Grégr, then on January 1, 1861 published the first edition of the Národní listy.

He was on the side of Karel Sladkovský in December 1874 co-founder of the National freethinking Party ( Národní strana svobodomyslná ). For the party, he also wrote the program. In the seventies, he took over the leadership of the young Bohemian movement. He is also attributed by its high level of awareness, the success of young Bohemia in the parliamentary elections in 1889 and 1891.

After two years of successful policy, he fell ill and turned away from political life. He earned 1893 Máslovicer mill in Dol, which served until his death as a summer residence. Grégr was married twice and had six children with every woman.

Grégr was a member of the country - and Reich Parliament. He became famous as the owner and publisher of the largest newspaper National Sheets ( Národní listy ). As the owner and editor of its most important features were the own like read criticism and the ability to select good employees. He fought for Czech national rights and was persecuted and imprisoned for his setting of the Austrian government. At the beginning of his political career, he was a free-thinking Democrat who felt a deep aversion against the nobility and the clergy.
