Young Marble Giants

Young Marble Giants is a post-punk band from Cardiff.

Biography

The band was founded in 1978 and signed in the same year at the newly founded independent record label Rough Trade Records a record deal. Two years later, the debut LP Colossal Youth appeared. The production cost only £ 1000, this was limited to an electric guitar, an electric organ, electric bass and drum machine. In addition, a continuous tape served as additional sound source.

After the decay of the first punk wedding in the quieter music of Young Marble Giants hit the zeitgeist. The Young Marble Giants were touring in Europe and the United States. It seemed even the single Final Day, and the instrumental EP Test Card, then the group dispersed.

In the 1990s, the debut LP was re-released several times. The Young Marble Giants - songwriter Stuart Moxham produced several other musicians, and others Barbara Manning. He was now also at The Gist with the singer Alison Statton in the band Weekend. On June 6, appeared in 2000 Salad Days, a phonogram with rarities, edited by Vinyl Japan. 2004 gave the Young Marble Giants a concert for BBC Wales. On 7 December 2004 the live DVD Live at the Hurrah appeared with recordings of concerts on 21 and 22 November 1980.

Importance

A conspicuous number of musicians committed to the Young Marble Giants, as the most famous is probably to call Kurt Cobain. Hole, the band of his widow Courtney Love, coverte even the Young Marble Giants song Credit in the Straight World. The Hamburg band Colossal Youth named after the debut of Young Marble Giants.

The charm of the music of Young Marble Giants took the musician Ken Taylor thus:

" Clandestinely generated YMG more gloom and anxiety than any drug- confused Punk: The Clarence mellow vocals punishes the heartbreak of Moxhams songs on strangest lies. Artists such as Adam Green, Stereolab, Belle and Sebastian and Super Furry Animals have paid the Young Marble Giants tribute.
