Youssoufia, Morocco
Youssoufia (Arabic: اليوسفية ) is a Moroccan city in the region Doukkala- Abda. It is the capital of the homonymous province.
Location
The city Youssoufia lies about 82 km ( driving distance ) east of Safi, 123 kilometers south of El Jadida. Marrakech is located approximately 105 km to the southeast.
Population
The majority of the population engaged in agriculture and as small traders, taxi drivers, etc. make is Berber descent. Leading positions in business, commerce, administration, and banking, health and education are in the hands of the Arab -born population minority. Among themselves Moroccan Arabic is mostly spoken.
Economy
Main source of income of the province and the city is the phosphate mining in the area and its further processing. Due to its status as a provincial capital and jobs were created in the administration; In addition, there is a university in the city.
History
The city Youssoufia was only founded in 1931 by the French colonialists after the discovery of rich Phosphatvorkommem in the area. After the re-creation of the province in 2009, the city was the provincial capital.
Attractions
In the new, but dusty and not very attractive city, there is no historical or culturally significant sights.
