Student mentors are students who are trained as mentors for younger students. The term does not denote a single qualification or task.
Situation in Germany
Student mentoring programs in Baden- Württemberg
Since the school year 1994/1995, there are standardized student mentoring programs in Baden- Württemberg. To date (2002/2003) were trained in Baden- Württemberg total of over 9000 students mentors in the areas of sports, music, art, church youth work, nature and environmental protection, transport and education in the technical and social matters. The technical and social area is offered in cooperation with youth organizations, the German Red Cross Youth, ARGE, DLRG youth, Maltese Youth, St. John's youth, young firefighters and THW youth with the Youth Department of the Ministry of Culture.
Independent student mentoring programs of individual schools
Some schools have developed independent student mentor programs themselves. The mentors are often high school students but the age group of mentors varied and students at the 8th grade there, for example, already used as mentors for elementary school children.
