The Lazy Tree Gespinstmotte ( Yponomeuta plumbella ) is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of web - and bud moth ( Yponomeutidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 16-20 millimeters. The type is one of the easier recognizable Yponomeuta species, there is a black spot in the middle of the front wing. Another distinguishing feature is a blackish markings on the wing tip.

The caterpillars have an ocher yellow color with two rows of black spots on the back side, each with a pair of points per segment.

Way of life

The adults ( imagoes ) fly from June to August on bush -covered slopes, edges of woods, parkland and gardens. The caterpillars spin a cocoon in a common and live there from April to June. Sometimes they are so numerous that the host plants are significantly damaged in the bushes. Preferred food plants of the caterpillars are the spindle tree ( Euonymus europaeus), the alder ( alnus frangula ) and blackthorn (Prunus spinosa).
