Yuri Andrukhovych
Yuri Ihorowytsch Andruchowytsch (Ukrainian Юрій Ігорович Андрухович; scientific transliteration Yuri Ihorovyč Andrukhovych; born March 13, 1960 in Stanislav, since 1962 Ivano- Frankivsk, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian writer, poet, essayist and translator. He is at the beginning of the 21st century as one of the most important cultural and intellectual voices of his country. Andrukhovych's works have been translated and published internationally.

Life
Born in western Ukraine, Stanislav, now Ivano -Frankivsk, closed Andruchowytsch 1982, the journalism faculty of the Lviv Polygraphic Institute and from then made (1983 /84), first his two-year military service in the Soviet army from.
Already since 1982, his first poems were published in literary magazines; In 1985 he founded together with Viktor Neborak and Oleksandr Irwanets the literary performance group Bu -Ba -Bu ( stands for бурлеск - балаган - буфонада may be translated as: burlesque, Rummel, buffoon ). In the same year Andrukhovych first volume of poetry Nebo i ploschtschi appeared ( "Heaven and places " ) and was positively received by critics. His time in the army he worked in seven satirical short stories and a screenplay that used the director Andrei Dontschyk 1991 for the film Oxygen Starvation ( Кислородное голодание ). They appeared in 1989 under the title links to where the heart beats ( Зліва, де серце: Оповідання ) and in 1994 translated and edited in part by Anna- Halja Horbatsch into German. The story collection marks the beginning of Andrukhovych turning to prose. In 1991, he took his leave with the last book of poems Exotic plants and birds from poetry. 1989-1991 took Andruchowytsch at the Moscow Maxim Gorki Institute courses for advanced literature. In November 1989, a book tour took him through several U.S. university towns. His novels are successfully relocated in Ukraine and abroad, most recently in 2008 mystery was released in August ( Таємниця. Замість роману, 2007) in German language. The first three novels intervened in satirical and controversial nature themes of the post-Soviet reality on: With Rekreaziji page (" jumps" ), he satirized the national renaissance in Ukraine, Moskowiada aimed at Russian cultural chauvinism towards the emancipation movements of former Soviet republics, which often controversial reactions aroused the public and should be inspired by his stay in Moscow. In addition to his own literary work Andruchowytsch translated from the German, Polish, Russian and English into Ukrainian, such as poems by Rilke and Pasternak, as well as Shakespeare's Hamlet, but also poets of the American Beat Generation.
At the beginning of the new millennium, Jurij Andruchowytsch turned again to poetry - although more mature in style and freedom in the form than in the early poems, the poet remains as experimental and playful in his poetry.
Due to the double event " Moving territories" of the seminar " Cultural Management " with Hanne Kulessa of the training program " book and media practice " at the Goethe University Jurij Andruchowytsch was with the Ukrainian authors Jurko Prochasko and Serhiy Schadan and the Ukrainian author Tanja Maljartschuk early February 2014 in Frankfurt am Main. On 5 February he read excerpts from his 2011 laid by Suhrkamp novel " perversion " during a reading evening at the Literature House Frankfurt before and took on 6 February in a discussion on the political situation in Ukraine in part. Awards
Yuri Andruchowytsch has received national and international awards, among them are honored in 2001 with the Herder Prize by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation, with the cultural achievements in Eastern Europe. 2005 Yuri Andruchowytsch received the Special Award to Erich Maria Remarque Peace Prize of the city of Osnabrück and was a guest of the DAAD Berlin Artists Programme. In 2006 he was awarded the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding. He is also vice president of the Ukrainian Writers' Union in his homeland ( Assoziazija ukrajinskych pysmennykiw - AUP).
