Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah

Youssef al - Alawi Abdullah (Arabic يوسف بن علوي بن عبد الله, * 1945 in Salalah in Oman's southern province of Dhofar ) is an Omani politicians. Although he performs the role of an Omani Foreign Minister technically, the portfolio of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is formally led by Sultan Qaboos.

Al- Alawi was born in 1945 in Salalah. He studied in Kuwait, and then worked for various Kuwaiti companies and government agencies. In August 1970, one month after the seizure of power, he was - like many others who had studied in the period of stagnation under former ruler Sultan Said abroad and working - contacted by the new ruler Sultan Qaboos and moved to return to Oman. In 1971 he was a member of an Omani confidence-building diplomatic tour in the Arab capitals. Then he was sent to the Omani embassy in Beirut, where he was ambassador in July 1973. In 1974 he was secretary of state and took over its technical line in 1982. In December 1997, he was eventually promoted to the rank of a Minister of Foreign Affairs.
