Yusuf Ma Dexin

Yusuf Ma Dexin马德 新/马德 新(* 1794, † 1874) or Ma Fuchu马 复 初(zi: Fuchu复 初), was a Hui Chinese scholar of Islam and religious leaders in China. He has translated the Koran into Chinese as the first ( Baoming Zhenjing zhijie宝 命 真经 直 解/宝 命 真经 直 解), part of which is only (5 juan ) were obtained.

Together with Wang Daiyu (王 岱 舆1570-1660 ), Liu Zhi (刘智1660-1745 ) and Zhu Ma (马 注1640-1711 ), he was one of the founders of the system of Islamic theology and philosophy in China.

He possessed a sound knowledge of Arabic and Persian, as well as of Islam. He has also written several books on Islam in Arabic and Persian. In 1841 he made the pilgrimage ( hajj ) to Arabia, and then held for eight years in the Middle East. At the age of 80, he was executed by the government of the Qing Dynasty for his participation in the Muslim Rebellion, Panthay the rebellion in Yunnan.
