Zaan
J. the Uylbrug ( Named after the former Dutch Prime Minister Joop den Uyl )
The Zaan is a ten- kilometer long river, which runs through the municipality of Zaanstad, taking the limit of the municipality Wormerland forms in the first kilometers: from Oostknollendam ( to Wormerland ) and West Knollendam ( to Zaanstad ) in the north to the dam in Zaandam in the south.
From the dam is called the watercourse Voorzaan and forms a connection with the North Sea Canal.
The Zaan was originally a Fehnkanal and ran from the Star Sea to the IJ.
