Zaandam–Enkhuizen railway

The railway line Zaandam Enkhuizen is a railway line in the Netherlands, which connects Zaandam about Hoorn Enkhuizen. The railway line was opened in 1860 as a branch of the railway line Nieuwediep -Amsterdam. Along the way, several new suburban stations have been built over time.

History

In 1884 the route part of Zaandam was taken to Hoorn in operation. In 1885 was the extension to Enkhuizen.

Only in 1974, the electrification of the line was completed, the section between Hoorn and Zaandam was expanded to double track by the year 1983, which up to Hoorn Kersenboogerd ten years later. Since December 2008, operate on the route and intercity trains.

Stations

The route has a total of 11 stations that are regularly served by passenger trains. A number of stations were built later, these are the Purmerend Over Where station ( opened in 1971 ), Bovenkarspel Flora ( opened in 1977 ), Hoorn Kersenboogerd ( opened in 1986 ), Zaandam Kogerveld ( opened in 1989 ) and Purmerend Weidevenne (opened on December 9, 2007).

The train route is traveled by trains of the type VIRM, in the rush hour trains also operate the older type DDM -1.
