Zabbix

Zabbix is an open source network monitoring system, which is developed by Alexei Vladishev. It is used for monitoring of IT infrastructures. 2001, the first version was released.

  • 2.1 training

Software

The software can be compiled either itself or can be downloaded from various Linux repositories.

Server

The Zabbix server can be installed on all UNIX like operating systems. Furthermore, a database is needed. For this, all major databases are:

  • MySQL
  • PostgreSQL
  • Oracle RDBMS
  • SQLite
  • IBM DB2

Web Interface

The complete monitoring is managed by a program written in PHP using a browser interface. Using combination of host / Actions / Items / trigger can every conceivable scenario for acquiring data can be realized. In particular, the representation of hosts on cards ( maps) of various types ( maps, plans, infrastructure, etc.) is easily solved and already integrated by default. A JSON interface provides the ability to automate the management of the overall system.

For each "Item" (, a recognized value ), a time graph called directly or can be self- defined at will. Several graphs can be configured freely displayed on a summary page. For the various applications, there are ready-made templates, so that the initial effort to configure the "Items" Zabbix is minimal.

For external alarm handling, there is the possibility of "events" to send by e -mail, Jabber, or GSM. Even your own scripts can be used for it.

Agents

The Zabbix Agent is a binary program (C ) which is installed on the server whose data is to be recorded. Also, data can be collected (from Zabbix 2.2) but by SNMP, IPMI or WMI, which no agent is required on the device. Simple tests such as open ports and / or response times can be configured directly in Zabbix. New since version 2.2 there is also a JAVA gateway to the so-called via JMX interface Java application server such as JBoss or Apache Tomcat can be monitored.

About functions such as " Discovery " newly discovered devices can be detected on the network and are automatically added to the monitoring.

The agents are available pre-compiled for the following platforms:

Proxy

A Zabbix installation can also be distributed via Zabbix Proxy or Zabbix nodes, for example, to multiple locations. Zabbix proxy and Zabbix nodes synchronize regularly with the Zabbix server and run the monitoring representative to the Zabbix server. In this way, network limitations can be overcome or the Zabbix server are relieved. The Zabbix node provides the same functionality as the Zabbix server - it is merely a sub- server of the Zabbix server.

Zabbix SIA

The Zabbix SIA was founded in 2005 with the focus to provide professional technical support. There are affiliate programs offered as well as integration services and Update Services.

Zabbix is released under the GNU GPL version 2 and is thus free software.

Training

It will be offered in several languages, Global training.
