Žabeň

Žabeň ( German cockroaches ) is a municipality with 604 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers north-west of Frýdek- Místek in northeast Moravia and part of the Okres Frýdek- Místek.

Geography

The village extends to 266 m asl left the Ostravice at the inflow Olešná. Neighboring towns are Paskov and Řepiště in the north, Liskovec in the east, Frýdek- Místek, Sviadnov and Staříč in the south and Brušperk in the West. To the northwest lie the shaft and processing plants of the disused coal mine Staříč.

History

The first written record dates from 1460, in the village was called as part of the fief of the Bishopric of Olomouc Paskover. It is believed that Žabeň is identical to that of 1395 assignable to the 15th century village of Maly Sviadnov.

1838 built by the residents in the Naisermühle a chapel, which was dedicated to St. Fabian and Sebastian. In 1904 the village school.

  • In the village there is a 22 m tall oak tree with a trunk circumference of 3.95 m. It was declared a natural monument in 1991.
