Scientific work

The scientific work Safas covers the entire field of Persian literature, but also areas of Iranian culture as the mystique, the Iranian festivals and much more. There are also some translations from the French.

Like many of his contemporaries in Iran, he took a liking to the French Romantics. From this period dates the translation of two works of Lamartine. Later he devoted himself to the translation of Les Kayanides work of Arthur Christensen, a Danish scholar in the field of Iranian Studies.

A collection of his own poems, titled Naš'at -e Gam ( " noise of the cup ") was launched several times since 1976.

Importance

Of the two forms of Persian poetry, the epic and the lyrical, lay him, at least judging by his work, the former - and here especially the heroic poetry - more at heart. His book Hamâse - sarâ'î represent Iran ( "History of heroic poetry in Iran "), which is one of his first scientific work was groundbreaking in this area. This theme, which had previously been treated by scholars as J. Mohl, Th Nöldeke, W. Barthold and H. Taqizade only introductory, learned only by Safa Zabihollah a detailed investigation which does not exceeded since its first appearance in 1945 until today been. He devotes the first two chapters of the history of the Persian epic; In the third chapter he treats approximately fifty works of the Persian epic poem, which he divides into national, historical and religious epic. Among them naturally takes the Shahnameh the most space. In the fourth chapter he deals with the content of the Iranian epic poetry.

The other area with which Safa employed for several years, is the history of Persian literature, published over the eight volumes ( 5920 pages).

" The term adabiât (' Literature' ) does not mean for Safa here in the narrow sense alone the beautiful spiritual, but the entire Persian literature. Thus, this literature grew into a true monumental work. As regards the belletristic literature in particular, the author has the life and works of many poets illuminated, of which the Iranians knew little more than the name before. "
