Zădăreni

Zădăreni ( Saderlach German, Hungarian Zádorlac ) is a town in Arad County, Banat, Romania. The municipality includes the village Zădăreni Bodrogu Nou.

Geographical Location

Zădăreni located on the left Maroschufer, in the north of the Banat, in western Romania, in the county road DJ 692 and on the railway line New - Arad - Greater St. Nicholas, eight kilometers from the county capital Arad. On the boundaries of the municipality, four kilometers west of Zădăreni, is the Greek Orthodox monastery Hodos - Bodrog, a native of the Middle Ages pilgrimage.

Etymology

The place name Zádorlac indicates an owner name " Zádor " and the Hungarian epilogue " lak " for place of residence.

History

The oldest mention of the settlement " Zadarlaka " comes from the papal Zehentlisten 1332-1337. In 1514, the "lock Zadorlak " was sacked by the insurgents Dózsas and destroyed all feudal documents. In the summer of 1661 the Castle of Mehmed III was. taken. During the Turkish occupation, only a small settlement " szállás " ( Praedium ) is mentioned by about 30 people in the vicinity of today's " Sallaschberges ".

After the Banat was as a result of the Peace of Passarowitz (1718 ) Habsburg crown land, began the state-directed, systematic settlement of this largely deserted stretch of land. Tourism

The monastery Hodos - Bodrog is an important tourist attraction. Dating from the 12th Century monastery is in possession of an extensive collection of icons from the 15th to the 18th centuries, as well as numerous books, manuscripts, silver vessels and artifacts from the Roman era, which were uncovered during excavations in the years 1976-1977.
