Zadní Chodov

Zadnà Chodov ( German Hinterkotten ) is a municipality with 278 inhabitants ( 1 January 2004) in the Czech Republic. It is located 7 km north- west of Plana and heard the Okres Tachov on. After the Second World War it was a center of Soviet uranium mining in the Czech Republic.

History

The first detectable regular place in 1365 the village was a settlement of Chod. 1555 place in the land register of Tachauer rule is mentioned. at that time have stayed here 50 families.

1726, built on the village square chapel of the Holy Trinity was consecrated, in the years 1781 - 83 was significantly expanded in 1856 a parish church. To her the filial church belonged in Promenhof. The place belonged to the rule plan, near the village of operating silver mines in the 17th century. 1870 Hinterkotten 88 houses and 582 inhabitants. In the district Khoau lived 175 people in 33 houses. 1930 resulted in official statistics, 710 inhabitants and 129 houses. After the Second World War, the German population was expelled in 1946.

After it had been mined at the beginning of the 20th century uranium was discovered in 1952 in a renewed investigation of uranium ore deposit. Only in December 1992, the production in the last slot has been set. During this period, 4,066 tons of uranium were recovered that were mined to a depth of 1,208 m. Until the closure of the uranium mine a total of 200 430 miners were employed.

The original shape of the village has remained largely intact. The nearby border crossing Broumov / Mähring was opened in 1991. In 2001, one donated by former German inhabitants bilingual memorial was inaugurated at the cemetery as part of the Khuanerfestes on 9 and 10 June. It has the following inscription in German and Czech:

"In Memory of the former inhabitants of Hinterkotten that their final resting place here. Lord grant them peace and our two peoples. "

In place of the German journalist and politician Wilfried Scharnagl was born in 1938.
