Zähringerbrunnen

The Zähringerbrunnen is in Kramgasse in Bern and belongs to the old town of Bern fountain from the 16th century.

It was built in 1535 by Hans Hiltbrand and is below the Clock Tower - tower. The current name of the well came on in the 19th century and is reminiscent of Berns city's founder, Berchtold V of Zahringen. In addition, the system also Finstergässlibrunnen or Bärenbrunnen was called.

The fountain sculpture is a standing bear with helmet, two swords stuck in his belt. The right paw holding a banner that left a shield. Banner and sign show a golden lion on a red background. There is a coat of arms variant, which was also performed by the Zähringians. Between the legs of the Great Bear sits a bear cub devours a grape.

Not to be confused with the Zähringerbrunnen is the Zähringerplatz monument in Nydegghöfli in Nydeggkirche.
