Žakanje

Žakanje is a municipality in Karlovac County.

The municipality consists of the villages Breznik Žakanjski, Brihovo, Bubnjaraćki Brod, Bubnjarci, Donji Bukovac Žakanjski, Ertič, Gornji Bukovac Žakanjski, Jadrići, Jugovac, Jurovo, Jurovski Brod, Kohanjac, Mala Paka, Mišinci, Mošanci, Pravutina, Sela Žakanjska, Sračak, Stankovci, Velika Paka, and Zaluka Lipnička and Žakanje.

On a hill above the village the castle stood Simunec called Simunvrh in the 17th century. Petar Zrinski donated it in 1651 to Baron Gaspar Colaric. Over the centuries it changed many times the owner under the stately noble families. Last demonstrable owner was the family Vuk, descendants of the Vuk Krsto Frankopan and the poetess Ana Katarina Zrinski Frankopan.

Žakanje is the birthplace of the composer Bozidar Širola.
