Zalaszántó

Zalaszántó is a municipality with 1,034 inhabitants in the county of Zala (Hungary). It is located in Western Transdanubia between Hévíz and Sümeg.

History

Zalaszántó was first mentioned in 1236, the mid-16th century the village was besieged by the Turks. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the population Zalaszántós increased significantly; after the Second World War, the population decline was recorded. It was only in the 1990s, this trend turned around.

Attractions

Above the village on the mountain Kovacs is the Park of human rights, which includes a built in 1992 Buddhist Peace Stupa.

Among the attractions of the place include a church, the first buildings dating from the year 1236 come and a Romanesque chapel dating back to 1441.

On another mountain near the village are the ruins of the castle Tátika.
