Zalmay Khalilzad

Zalmay Khalilzad ( Shalmai Khalilsad ) ( born March 22, 1951 in Mazar -e Sharif, Afghanistan) was employed under the Bush administration representatives ( ambassadors ) of the United States at the United Nations ( UN) and before special advisor to the U.S. State Department in Afghanistan.

Life

Khalilzad was a member of the neoconservative think tank Project for the New American Century ( PNAC ) and advisor to the oil company Unocal, before he joined the Bush cabinet. There he was the most important Muslim. He belongs to the Republican Party.

After serving from November 2003 to June 2005 as the United States Ambassador in Afghanistan, he was appointed by President Bush as ambassador to Iraq. On 12 February 2007 Bush beat him to succeed John R. Bolton and the interim incumbent Alejandro Daniel Wolff before official UN Ambassador of the United States. On 29 March 2007 dominated by the Democratic Party Senate confirmed the proposal. Zalmay Khalilzad was also President of the Security Council for the month of May 2007. After the victory of Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, he had his office to Susan E. Rice exits.

Growing up is the Pashtun in Kabul, where he attended the private school Ghazi Lycée. Today, he is married to the Austrian author Cheryl Benard. They live with their two sons in Maryland.
