Zalmoxis

Zalmoxis (Greek Ζάλμοξις ), also Salmoxis ( Σάλμοξις ) Zamolxis ( Ζάμολξις ) or Samolxis ( Σάμολξις ) is a deity of the Getae in ancient mythology, which grants eternal life to the dead.

According to Herodotus the Zalmoxis every five years, a messenger was sent to each his prayers and wishes could be on the way. For this one grabbed the messenger of the hands and feet and let it fall so in this established spears. If the messenger killed in this way, we interpreted this as a good sign; he remained alive, he was insulted by the people as " bad guy ".

Herodotus held Zalmoxis his hand for an escaped slave of the philosopher Pythagoras, who had picked up from the teachings of something and have raised at the Thracians by cheap tricks the impression itself to be immortal.

The author of Philosophumena saw Zalmoxis as a teacher Celtic Druids: " [ .... ] Zamolxis, is said to have taught the Pythagorean philosophy, the Celtic Druids. " ( Philosophumena I, 2, 22).
