The Zanskar River (also Tsarap ) arises at the confluence of the Stod and Lungnak. The swelling river Stod has its origin at the Pensi La, during the Lungnak created by the confluence of the rivers Kargyag and Tsarap in the Padum Valley. The Zanskar lays back about 150 km, before heading north flows through the impressive Zanskar bottleneck to subsequently flow into the Indus. Another inflow in the lower reaches of the Zanskar is the Markha.
Rafting
The Zanskar is known mainly because of its good suitability for rafting during the summer months. Several commercial providers arrange tours, but since its rapids reach a higher level of difficulty, it is recommended for advanced users only.
Winter Trekking
In winter, the Zanskar is used for winter trekking. The tour is called Frozen River Trek.
