Zapiekanka

Zapiekanka (plural: Zapiekanki ) is called a Polish snack that is similar to the French sandwich Croque.

The Zapiekanka has been developed yet to Soviet bloc as a socialist Fast Food offering for the working population. Since it is quite original and not expensive, it has long-term claims on the snack market.

Zapiekanki consist of a longitudinally bisected white bread bar which is topped with mushrooms, finely chopped onion pieces and with a spice and herb mixture. Depending region is also chopped fresh peppers or meat, mostly added ham. Then the white bread is baked with spicy cheese. Before it is served to the customer, nor an elongated thin strip of ketchup comes on to the baguette. There are also Zapiekanka variants, including with pineapple ( Zapiekanka hawajska; "Hawaii Zapiekanka " ) or with feta and olives ( Zapiekanka Grecka; " Greek Zapiekanka "), but also with tomato sauce instead of ketchup.
