Zavelim (also Zavelin ) is a small municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The population was 274 in 1991

Zavelim lies on the border with Croatia and is the westernmost town in the municipality Posušje. To the east and south lies Vir Podbila and the Croatian border. North Roško Polje ( municipality Tomislav degrees).

In the village live almost exclusively Catholic Croats.

History

An important Roman road of Narona ( Vid near Metković ) to Delminium ( Duvanjsko polje ) led over Zavelim. Zavelim fell in 1513, just like Vir, as one of the last places in Herzegovina into Turkish hands.

Special

  • The place is located below the mountain of the same Zavelim ( 1346 m. J. i ) and is a very popular hunting and hiking area. On the mountain there are 77 sources.
  • The Church in Zavelim was built in 1934 and the Sv. Ordained of Padua Ante ( Anthony of Padua ). It belongs to the parish of Vir. Zavelim considered as the most beautiful of the many villages in the district Posusje as many of the " Zavelimara " ( Zavelims inhabitants ) have the place decorated with magnificent houses and gardens.
