Zbraslav

Zbraslav ( German King's Hall ) is a district of Prague. It has 7800 inhabitants and is located about 10 km south from Prague's city center at the junction of Berounka in the Vltava River. The district consists of the former city Zbraslav and Lahovice.

History

Zbraslav was first mentioned in 1115 as a possession of the monastery Kladruby. After the place was come into the possession of the Bohemian crown, King Ottokar II hunting chateau was built here in 1268. His successor Wenceslas II founded on April 20, 1292, the monastery Aula Regia, which was inhabited by Cistercian Order in Forest Assen and his daughter Monastery Sedlec.

The Basilica of the monastery was built in 1297 for grave laying of the ruling family of Přemyslids, in whom the kings of Wenceslas II, Wenceslas III. and Wenzel were buried IV. The bones of the last Přemyslidenkönige were transferred to the Jacobusbasilika 1991.

One of the most important late medieval historical sources of Bohemia, the king Saaler Chronicle ( Chronicon Aulae regiae ) was begun in the Aula Regia monastery of Abbot Otto von Thüringen (Abt 1312-1314 ) and the most famous abbot of the monastery, Peter of Zittau, continued. The monastery was an important center of education and humanism in Bohemia and the entire Holy Roman Empire.

The monastery was twice, 1420 and 1639 by the Hussites devastated by the Swedes before it was disbanded in 1785 by Emperor Joseph II. 1787 took the k.k. Privileged sugar refinery in the monastery buildings its operation to the Royal Hall bey Prague.

1825 came the town of King's Hall in the possession of the Princely House of Oettingen- Wallerstein, and became the seat of a judicial district. Under the next owner of the domain, Cyril Bartoňs - Dobenín, was a restoration and conversion of monasteries into a castle.

1974 saw the incorporation Zbraslavs to Prague. In 1991 the town had 7151 inhabitants, ten years later 7448 inhabitants in 1305 homes.
