Zdenko Verdenik

Zdenko Verdenik ( born 2 May 1949 in Ptuj, SFR Yugoslavia) is a Slovenian football coach. He is currently without a club.

Career as a coach

Verdenik began his coaching career in his native Slovenia during the Yugoslav first division relegated NK Olimpija Ljubljana. But the then 35 -year-old could not prevent the second descent of the Association in a row. After a false start in the third division Verdenik 1985 was dismissed.

After Slovenian independence from Yugoslavia and the UEFA accession of the national football association took over Verdenik the coach of the U- 21 team and ran it for a year. In July 1994 he became head coach of the senior national teams. On 7 September, he reached a 1-1 to kick off the European Championship qualifier against Italy in his debut game. At the end of the group stage of Slovenia finished in fifth place and could thus only the dotless Estonia leave behind. Except against the Estonians still managed a 3-2 win after 0-2 behind against Ukraine. Twelve points separated Verdeniks team after a total of ten games from the second place in the relay, which would have entitled the finals participation. In the following period until the start of World Cup qualifying the national team remained undefeated at least four times in five friendship games. With a 7-1 over Iceland succeeded in this phase also the largest margin of victory in Verdeniks tenure. The start of the World Cup qualification was still disappointing: in the first three games, only one point could be won. After 0-4 against Denmark on 30 April 1997 Zdenko Verdenik was dismissed.

In May 1998, Dr. Zdenko Verdenik has been appointed as the new coach of FK Austria Wien. On April 2, 1999, it was announced by President Dr. strings that you have agreed to the consensual termination of the contract with coach Zdenko Verdenik. Early 2002 sparked Verdenik the Japanese Tetsuro Miura as manager of Nagoya Grampus Eight from. According to a sixth and a seventh place in the J-League from Slovenia joined Vegalta Sendai. There he suffered relegation from the J-League. After the direct revival failed, Verdenik left the club.

On 1 July 2010 took Verdenik after several years out of the second division inter-block Ljubljana in Slovenia his home. He led Inter block for second place in the Druga Liga. In the promotion relegation then one but failed. In the cup competition, the club reached the semi-finals surprising. Despite these successes left Verdenik in June 2011 inter-block.

The now 62 -year-old coach has since been unemployed.
