Zdeno Å trba

Zdeno Štrba ( born June 9, 1976 in Krasno nad Kysucou ) is a former Slovak football player.

Club career

Štrba started to play football with his hometown club Tatran in his hometown of Krasno nad Kysucou in the district of Žilina. In youth he moved to FK Dukla Banská Bystrica for where he remained until the age of 21 years. Then he changed to Matador Púchov, where he became the key players in the central midfield in the league Corgoň. A career leap he experienced in 2003. Beginning of the year took him the reigning champion MŠK Žilina under contract. On 13 February 2003, he played his first game for the national team. With Žilina he defended the championship in the same year, resulting in the following season, they could repeat again. It was followed by five more successful years at the northen tip club with another championship and three runner-up. As a first Slovak team reached the MŠK Žilina 2008/ 09, the main round of the UEFA Cup. After that Zdeno Štrba again decided at age 32 to a move abroad. He joined the Greek Super League club Skoda Xanthi and also proved to be there from the beginning as valuable midfield support. In December 2010, he signed a contract for 18 months at MŠK Žilina.

National

In the national squad Zdeno Štrba had become the leading player and played an important role in the initial qualification of Slovakia for a world championship. Accordingly, it was set in South Africa in 2010 also in the World Cup squad of Slovakia as a regular player. He played in all three games of the first round and moved thanks to a surprising victory of his team against Italy in the knockout stages. In October 2010 Štrba announced his retirement from international football.
