Żędowice

Żędowice ( German: Sandowitz ) is a place in the Gmina Zawadzkie in powiat Strzelecki in the Opole Voivodeship. The mayor's office has about 2,480 inhabitants Żędowice.

Geography

The village is located about 50 kilometers southeast of Opole and 50 kilometers north- west of Katowice, on the border with Silesia. The county town of Strzelce ( German United Strehlitz ) is about 18 kilometers away. Żędowice is located south of the river Malapane.

Neighboring towns of Żędowice are in the northwest and southeast Zawadzkie Kielcza with which Żędowice is grown.

History

Żędowice was first mentioned in 1300. Has influenced the development of the resort, as well as throughout the region, through the dense forests and the timber industry. There are also in the area also several iron ore deposits.

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921 213 voters voted to remain in Germany and 1015 for Poland. Sandowitz remained with the German Reich. 1933 lived 2,494 residents in the town. 1939, the place had 2,692 inhabitants. By 1945, the place was in the district of Great Strehlitz.

In 1945 the previously German place under Polish administration and renamed Żędowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950, the city came to Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place to re-founded powiat Strzelecki.
