Zeeshan Ali

Zeeshan Ali ( born January 1, 1970 in Calcutta, West Bengal ) is a former Indian tennis player.

Life

Ali, whose father Akhtar Ali himself was Davis Cup player and later team leader of the Indian Davis Cup team that began in Later by ten years with the sport of tennis. In 1986, he reached the semifinals of the junior tournament at Wimbledon, in the following year he stood at the side of Brett Steven in the doubles final of the junior tournament, the U.S. Open. In 1987 and 1988 he was the national Indian tennis champion.

As a tennis player he could not build on the successes of the youth. In individual he succeeded no significant result, in double between 1989 and 1990, he won three doubles titles on the ATP Challenger Tour. In the following years he played mostly on satellite tournaments; in the last years of his career he only played in tournaments in Dubai, where he regularly received wildcards, but left always in the first round. Its highest listing in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1988 with position 126 in the individual as well as position 149 in doubles.

In individual he could only once to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament, but was defeated in 1989 at Wimbledon against Wally Masur clear. In the doubles competition, he reached in 1988 and 1989 on the side of Jonathan Canter, respectively the second round.

Ali played between 1989 and 1994 nine singles and four doubles matches for the Indian Davis Cup team. From its single encounters he could win only one, namely the game against Hidehiko Tanizawa in the 4-1 victory against Japan. His biggest success was with the team to participate in the semifinals of the World Group in 1993., Where he played the last individual in the game against Australia after India has lagged 0:4, and Jason Stoltenberg was clearly inferior in two sets. His last Davis Cup appearance is dated from 1994, in the match against the United States, he lost clearly against Jim Courier and Todd Martin.

In the Summer Olympics 1988, he stepped up to the individual for India. After a first round win over Victor Caballero in Paraguay, he was defeated in the second round of the Swiss Jakob Hlasek.
