Zeitschrift für Ostmitteleuropa-Forschung
The Journal of East-Central Europe Research ( ZFO ) is a refereed journal on the history and culture of East Central Europe into German and English. It is on behalf of the Herder Institute for Historical Research in East Central Europe, currently twelve Marburg historian / inne / s from Germany and the USA, edited and published quarterly in the institute's own publishing house.
The ZFO was founded in 1952 under the title of Ostforschung magazine and published by order of the Johann- Gottfried -Herder Research Council of Hermann Aubin, Herbert Schlenger and Erich Keyser. Until 1969 the ZFO appeared in Elwert Verlag, Marburg. In 1994 the editorship was transferred to the Herder Institute of Research; In 1995 he received the ZFO their currently valid name.
The contributions in the ZFO deal with the area of the present states of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary and the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. In addition to scientific articles and miscellanea the ZFO also contains reviews and research reports. In addition, up to two times a year special issues appear in the normal magazine count, compiled by each particular designated guest editors. In previous decades, more nationwide historical selected bibliographies, as well as obituaries and conference proceedings were published. Found themselves the editors in the first decades still in the tradition of German Ostforschung that ZFO avoids today the earlier fixation on the German share in the history of East Central Europe and makes it instead on the task represent the heterogeneity of the region historiographically.
