Zekarias Yohannes

Zekarias Yohannes ( born May 13, 1925 in Adigenú ) is retired bishop of Asmara.

Life

Zekarias Yohannes received on 2 June 1949, and was ordained priest incardinated in the clergy of the Eparchy of Asmara.

John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop on 29 January 1981 in Asmara and Titular Bishop of Barca. The Archbishop of Addis Ababa Paulos Tzadua ordained him on June 6th of the same year the bishop; Co-consecrators were Asrate Mariam Yemmeru, retired Archbishop of Addis Ababa, and François Abraha, Bishop Emeritus of Asmara. On 5 February 1974, he was appointed Koadjutorerzbischof from Maceió.

On July 17, 1984, he was appointed Bishop of Asmara. On June 25, 2001 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
